We are Abel and Sonya Riaños and by the grace and kindness of our Heavenly Father we have been pastors at the Mission Victoria Río Grande church for 26 years. Our congregation has 130 members in Rio Grande and various missions around us. During the recent pandemic, we decided to keep the church completely open with all activities, to minister to the needs around us.

The new project God is working through us is a multigrade school in the church. The Oaxacan educational system has deteriorated greatly both educationally and morally, teaching things that are openly against the Gospel of Jesus.  In 2020 we began with 11 children, and today we have 62 children!

We have plans to remodel the church facilities to be able to have more adequate space for the children. In addition to teaching them academics, we also have devotions with them. We also installed a kitchen to feed them. The children and parents are very happy, and we are rescuing a generation! Today we have preschool, primary and secondary school with the Alas Project.

We reactivated a children’s cell in the Barrio de la Cruz. We noticed that the harvest in this neighborhood is about children. The children’s ministry of the church organized discipleship classes on Saturdays and last September 20, 2023, we had an outreach event where many responded to the call to follow Jesus. We are thankful to God for the harvest of children!

Note: Abel is a graduate of the first Bible School class in 1994 and Sonya, his wife is a graduate of the second Bible School class.  They have three children who are also graduates of the Roca Blanca Bible School.
